Company Spotlight

Twenty20 Solutions

For this Company Spotlight, we interviewed Twenty20 Solutions CEO, Dan Vertachnik, and COO, Duncan Riley, about how the company is streamlining and automating on-site security and monitoring, especially in remote areas. Twenty20 Solutions is a global provider of automation and security technology, smart surveillance, and access control solutions for both on and off-grid environments. For more information on Twenty20 Solutions, please visit www.twenty20solutions.com.

Background: Founded originally as PetroCloud in late 2014, the company’s initial offering digitally monitored and automated routine operations at oil and gas properties in an effort to reduce pumpers’ “windshield time”, enabling them to spend more of their time fixing problems rather than searching for them. In 2016 in response to its customers’ feedback, the company narrowed its focus to security monitoring and automation solutions for remote oil and gas operations as well as the utility, agriculture, construction, and critical infrastructure industries. In 2019, the company changed its name to Twenty20 Solutions to better reflect its capabilities and customer base.

Value Proposition:  Before implementing Twenty20’s solution, its customers relied on on-site security personnel, manually-monitored surveillance systems, or many times leaving these remote operating sites unprotected and unmonitored until a service technician intermittently visited the location. Twenty20’s security automation platform provides several advantages to conventional security surveillance offerings, including:

  1. AI-Powered Analytics Technologies: Twenty20’s artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can analyze sensor and video data in real time and trigger automations (e.g. operating a valve when tank levels reach a certain threshold, providing access to vehicles based on license plate recognition, or alerting the correct personnel if there is an unrecognized person or vehicle on site). The Twenty20 team is also continuously developing additional AI technologies, such as facial recognition and body temperature monitoring.

  2. Holistic “Single Pane of Glass” Solution:  Through its web dashboard or mobile app, Twenty20 enables site managers to monitor security cameras and sensors as well as control access and operations from a single screen. Twenty20’s dashboard also provides data-driven business intelligence that help management focus on the most important events and insights.

  3. Deployment/Implementation Ease and Flexibility:  Unlike many other commercial security monitoring services, Twenty20 can deploy its solution to remote locations, as it is able to use satellite, cellular, fiber, or any combination of communication protocols to connect the site to its monitoring service. Further, Twenty20’s solution is fully compatible with any existing surveillance, access, or automation equipment, such as Axis cameras.

Closing Thoughts: With the energy industry being tasked to enable more remote working to “do more with less”, we are looking forward to following Twenty20, as it continues to enhance its AI detection technologies to improve automation and management of remote locations to cost effectively make these locations more secure, efficient, and environmentally-friendly.
